Hi, Clubbers! We are excited to communicate that on November 20, 2023, TANADAO, which stands for "DAO for terraced rice paddies", went live and began accepting members.

Chiiki Okoshi, a non-profit organization, and Dev Protocol, your favorite web3-based project, had teamed up to provide to the villages of Iketani and Iriyama in Tokamachi-city Web3 installation support using Clubs, Dev Protocol’s flagship product.

Iketani and Iriyama villages had just 6 houses and 13 residents left following the 2004 Great Chuetsu Earthquake. But by September 2016, it had grown to 11 houses and 24 residents thanks to community rehabilitation initiatives and recent immigration, earning it the moniker "miracle village”.

Following its vision of creating a decentralized creator economy, the Dev Protocol team decided to support the “miracle village” by using NFTs to digitize membership, a key feature in Clubs. Tana DAO creators hope to create a community where people can interact with one another and actively participate in developing Iketani and Iriyama villages. It is also expected that the collaboration with urban residents will raise awareness of TANADAO, allowing the village’s development and the increase of the Club’s supporters.

Like orchestras need a conductor, TANADAO had its promoters. Tomoyoshi Tada, Director General of Chiiki Okoshi, and Kaoru Kimura, Business Development Manager at Dev Protocol, were the people in charge of conceiving this amazing project. Both agree that although many external and internal challenges between stakeholders arise in the context of "local development" and "regional revitalization”, TANADAO is a unique opportunity to tackle these challenges by forming a collaborative community while making visible these Japanese treasures, terraced rice paddies, to the rest of the world.

Since July 2023, TANADAO has been presented at conferences and workshops anticipating the community's launch. Here are some of the activities:

• Presentation at Rice Terrace Society of Japan. Mr. Tada, a representative of Chiiki Okoshi, gave a talk on August 26, 2023, at the University of Tokyo during the Rice Terraces Society of Japan symposium.
• DAO internal workshops. Members convene for monthly study sessions to learn about the best practices for managing a Club and creating benefits with the resources of the Iketani and Iriyama villages.
• Unveiling party (Coming up: December 2023). On December 15, 2023, a co-working space in Tokyo, Japan will host an event to commemorate the introduction of this DAO. Please join us at TANADAO if you want to attend the party.
